Christian counseling
DaySpring meets each person where they are at in their spiritual life. Our practice has worked with thousands of people from different belief perspectives: Christian, Atheist, Agnostic or other religions. Our therapists integrate the use of Christian counseling techniques when requested by the client.
The goal of Christian counseling is to assess and treat mental health problems or resolve challenging life issues using faith-based and psychological principles. Because faith can play a significant role in a person's life, clients who identify as a Christian may feel more comfortable seeing a counselor who share their beliefs or are able to discuss faith openly. Christian therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s degree in counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—and who are familiar with Christian beliefs and values and understand the importance of them.
Clients who begin therapy with specific problems they hope to solve—such as a marital dispute or a parenting challenge—might receive guidance or advice that is based specifically on the teachings of the Bible. Client and therapist may not share the same denomination; however, any ethical therapist will respect the client’s religious beliefs without trying to change them (excluding beliefs that are harmful to the self or others). Techniques in the session may include prayer or the use of Bible reading, and mindfulness.
